Systematic Botany and Functional Biodiversity

Welcome to the Group "Systematic Botany and Functional Biodiversity"

Functional biodiversity research of plants studies the characteristics and the changes in plant functional traits along environmental gradients as well as the effects of species richness and species identitiy on ecosystem functioning and -services.

Module Vegetation Ecology and Plant Geography

On the 12th of May 2017, PD Dr. Alexandra Weigelt went to Porphyrkuppen region nearby Halle (Salle) with Bachelor and Master students for a Botanical excursion.
The students could observe the flowering peak of some plant species such as Orchis morio a native of western Eurasia orchid species and Adonis vernalis found in dry meadows and steppes along Europe.

Fieldwork in the Central Amazon on forest dynamics

    30.06.2015

Daniel Marra has been in Central Amazon (Manaus) in June 2015 for collecting data on tree community dynamics in permanent plots installed in a wind-disturbed terra firme forest. By monitoring naturally disturbed forests we aim to better understand forest succession and diversity patterns.

Laser scanning of grasslands within the Jena-Experiment

    29.06.2015

Claudia Guimaraes-Steinicke tests if temporal niche complementarities contribute to the observed productivity-biodiversity relationship. For that she produced high resolution measurements by terrestrial LiDAR pictures (laser scanning) of grasslands within the Jena-Experiment in the summer of 2015.
